Following the regulations on segmentation and zoning of the Cava DO for Guarda Superior sparkling wines, Roger Goulart’s classic reference joins the catalogue of organic wines.
Roger Goulart Brut Nature Reserva will become an organic cava starting with the 2022 vintage, a certification that complies with the requirements set by the Regulatory Board of the Cava Designation of Origin for Guarda Superior cavas. This follows the regulatory changes introduced in 2020, which led to the segmentation and zoning of these Spanish sparkling wines.
For years, Roger Goulart has been working with vineyards managed under sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture, and has traditionally encouraged its growers to convert to organic practices, continuing with this philosophy.
With the 2022 harvest, Roger Goulart already adapted to the new Cava regulations, and it is now that the first bottles of this Brut Nature Reserva reach the market bearing the organic certification. The DO’s segmentation requires this standard for this category, in addition to other criteria such as a minimum vine age of 10 years, a maximum yield of 10,000 kg/ha, and full traceability of grapes, must, and base wine. These measures mark a step forward in consolidating the quality of wines in this category, which must also undergo a minimum bottle ageing of 18 months.
Roger Goulart Brut Nature Reserva 2022 is based on the xarel·lo variety, complemented by touches of chardonnay, macabeo, and parellada from the Anoia and Foix river basins, harvested and vinified separately. After blending, the second fermentation in bottle and subsequent ageing take place in Roger Goulart’s underground cellars, excavated more than 30 metres below ground.
